SportsDo delivers live performance and location stats – on horseback
I started using SportsDo on my weekend hacks in the country, and now I wouldn't
be without it. It keeps me up-to-date on my speed, distance travelled, route taken
and lots of other stats, but it's discreet and doesn't get in the way or look out
of place. SportsDo works on my mobile phone, so it's easy to pocket.
Real-time stats
This is the first time I've had live information about my speed – most horses don't
come with dashboards! I can set SportsDo to show me a selection of my real-time
stats in “big” mode, or check the stats summary page.
Hear your speed
I can also get SportsDo to announce any of my stats at my chosen intervals through
my earphones. The announcements work even if I'm listening to music at the same
time.
Immediate review
SportsDo saves all my information as I go and I can review it afterwards using the
charts and graphs shown on the phone. I'm particularly interested in the calorie
information. Riding is fantastic aerobic exercise and they say you can burn 220
calories per hour. SportsDo gives me exact information on my energy consumption.
Light as a feather
I'm also using SportsDo for eventing. Because it runs on my phone, SportsDo isn't
adding much weight. It's great for giving me my cross-country speed and I can also
set it to give me lap details. SportsDo's route trace shows my exact cross-country
route, with the different speeds I achieved marked in different colours.
Memories to share
SportsDo could have been made for “le trec”, the horseback version of orienteering
from France that's sweeping the riding world. Not only does SportsDo make the event
more exciting, it also creates memories that I can share. All my activity information
can be uploaded to SportsDo and shared with other users. My own log pages contain
detailed maps, automatically generated from the saved data. Any songs I listened
to appear in the log too. I can add my own text to fill out the entries. Best of
all, any pictures I've taken are pasted into the log and related to the map – they
appear on the map in the exact positions where I shot them.
Sharing with friends
But SportsDo's not just a way of reliving my memories. I can also use it to give
friends and family a live window into my activities. SportsDo Live transmits regular
updates on my performance to the web so others can follow what I'm doing and where
I'm going. I also like to use SportsDo's Text Buddies feature to send regular text
messages containing my stats to friends at meets – there's no need to fiddle with
the keys because SportsDo does it all for me.
New levels of fun
For me, no technology comes near the horse for sheer outdoors enjoyment. But SportsDo
adds to the experience. It's giving new depths to my experience, creating great
talking points amongst my fellow riders, and helping me capture and share my sporting
passion.
